We received a call at 6:30am telling us that Devon's daycare would be closed due to a burst water main. Drat. Here's the conversation I had with Devon when she woke up:
Mommy: Guess what?
Devon: What?
Mommy: You get to have a holiday today!
Devon: I'm not going to daycare?
Mommy: Nope.
Devon: Is daycare closed?
Mommy: Yep. A pipe burst so they had to close it.
Devon: Mommy, that's not a holiday. A holiday is when you don't go to daycare, but everybody else does have to go to daycare. Today is a 'stay at home' day.
I'll be lining up at 5:30 am tomorrow morning to register Devon for kindergarten. I never thought I would become one of *those* parents, but there I'll be, equipped with a thermos of coffee, a camp chair, and some reading material. I suppose it could be worse: there's a school downtown for which parents camp overnight.
My main concern is not sitting out in the cold for a couple of hours, but what to do when I need to use the bathroom...and I will need to use the bathroom.
Would you believe that we actually scoped out the school earlier this evening, so that we would know which door to line up at (they have signs posted on each entrance directing people to the correct spot)?
