Oh, one more thing. I wrote a letter of complaint to Graco today because our stroller is so squeaky. It sounds like an orchestra tuning their instruments and makes everyone withing 100 yards turn and say 'what's that noise?' No, I'm not exaggerating and Graco better do something about it or else!
Quick update (more for the sake of putting it on record for posterity, than for actually writing something people might be interested in reading). Devon had her 13 month doctor appointment today. She weighs 20.5 pounds and I can't remember her height but it was bang on the 50th percentile. She had an immunization and screamed her head off the whole time. Made me feel sick to my stomache that I couldn't do anything and I had to sit down.
Please take a moment to vote 'yes' to having the government ratify the Kyoto Agreement on cutting greenhouse gas emissions. The National Post is gathering votes and sending them to David Anderson (Minister of the Environment).

So I got home from work today and Jeff was already home with Devon (it was his turn to pick her up). She was wearing an entirely new outfit from head to toe. My inquiry was met with the following story.
Devon and the rest of the kids go out to play in the backyard of the daycare everyday after their morning nap. As they were all getting ready, one of the kids said 'what's this stuff on my mitt?' Anne looked around and noticed the same 'stuff' streaked all over the kitchen floor. She smelled it...no particular smell. She looked and she looked. Finally, she decided to keep getting the kids dressed. When it came to Devon, she realized what the 'stuff' was. Devon had had a gigantic poop. It was so huge it had exploded out of her diaper, all down her legs and into her socks. She had been spreading it all over the kitchen. Anne didn't catch on because it wasn't particularly smelly (or her nose is broken!).
Anyway, Anne had to strip Devon naked and hose her down in the kitchen while dealing with the 'ewwww gross' of all the other little kids.
I sure am glad I don't work in a daycare!
Well, off to bed. Tomorrow will be a great day. I did so much work at home over the last couple of days that I've filled my quota for the week and can take tomorrow off. I haven't decided what we'll do yet, but it will probably involve a latte at some point.
Like mother like daughter. Devon loooooves books! She'll easily spend 45 minutes or an hour each day 'reading.' It's by far her favourite activity. We'll sit in her playroom with her and she'll crawl over to the bookshelf, pull out a book, then bring it over and put it on our lap. She then sits down to be read to. If she doesn't like the book, she shoves it out of our hand and goes to get another one. This will go on for ages. Her favourites are books with things to touch (like Pat the Bunny) or good photos to look at (like Baby Faces). I'm so glad she's developing this love of books.
Devon also continues to practice standing on her own. A couple of times yesterday I let go of her hands as she was standing in the middle of the floor. Both times she stood for 10 seconds or so then started to cry. I guess she felt vulnerable or something. She's a pretty cautious kid and much prefers standing next to something that she can quickly grab hold of.
She's also getting really good at going up and down the stairs. When she gets to the landing, she'll sit down, scoot around, and head right back down. She hasn't fallen or slipped even once. What a pro!
I'm having such a good time with her on the days that I'm home. She's always happy, laughing and smiling and can really amuse herself (and me at the same time). It's working out perfectly...and I'm even getting lots of work done. Monday night and Tuesday, I got a full days work in, so that means I can take tomorrow off. I'll have to think of something fun for us to do. I hope the weather will be nice. Maybe we can go for a hike.
By the way, some of you may have noticed that I've added a tracking feature down at the bottom of the page (I blatantly stole the idea from Andrea). It's very interesting. I have no idea who some of the people are who are visiting the site. Some are obvious, but others leave me scratching my head. Come on out and say 'hello' all you lurkers!
