Just got back from our swim class. As I predicted, Devon loved it. She started squealing even before we got in the pool...much to the amusement of everyone there. It was a fun class. We sang songs, played with toys and learned about safety in the water. Next week we'll be dunking the babies!
After careful consideration, I've decided not to write my CFRE exam in December. I've been completely stressed out trying to find the time just to finish the application, and also it looks like the study group will be meeting a few mornings a week. That means I'd have to find a sitter for Devon during those times. So, I'm just going to relax and continue enjoying being a stay-at-home-mom for a while. I'm hoping there will be another chance to write the exam in 2002 because I still really want to do it.
The Ottawa Citizen is reporting today that the FBI is warning of a possible second wave of terrorist attacks on September 22nd. That's my day off (my birthday request to Jeff), and I'm actually a little nervous. Should I be worried about going downtown or to a shopping centre? Am I just being paranoid? After all, we do live in the capital of Canada and the paper did mention that Canada was on a hit list. Well, I guess I can't live my life around the schedule of terrorists. That would just be giving in to them. I will be cautious though...we probably all should be.
Jeff and I had a role reversal today. I got up and got ready for work, and Jeff got up and took care of the baby. I had a work meeting this morning (which ended up not taking place), so we got a taste of what January will be like when I return to work and Jeff stays home with the baby.
I've been pretty busy the last little while. I've been doing way more socializing than usual. I've been a hermit for so long that I finally snapped (see Sept 17th entry). Anyway, it's been fun. I went shopping the other day with Sevgi. I ended up getting a new pair of shoes (finally replacing the ones I'd been wearing for approximately 10 years!), a new cordless phone (ours got fried) and some clothes for Devon. It was so hard to hold back on the baby clothes. We were in the new Old Navy store at Bayshore and the clothes are so great...and reasonably priced too. I wish I had unlimited cash to clothe the peach!
Tomorrow is our first swim 'class' at Dovercourt. It's not really a class from what I understand, it's more about playing in the water. Devon will love it I know, but I'm stuck on the issue of how to get myself into a bathing suit, get Devon into a swim diaper, put stuff away in our locker...all without putting Devon on the stinky, smelly, dirty floor of the women's change room. Last time I was at Dovercourt, I did notice they have a playpen in the women's washroom. I guess that's what it's for, but I'm still worried about the logistics.
I'm also somewhat reluctant to report that I've signed up for a beginner's knitting class that starts next week. I've always wanted to knit, and my grandmother has tried to teach me a number of times, but all I've managed to produce is one slipper that looked like it would fit a horse's hoof, not a human foot. Wish me luck!
Devon has a great new trick. Sevgi has aptly named it "top-of-the-eyes." You really have to see it to understand, but essentially she looks at you then dips her head down while keeping her eyes on you. She does it over and over again...probably because everyone starts laughing their heads off when she does it.
Well, gotta run. The peach isn't too happy and we have to get ready to go to my Dad's for our weekly lunch.
Having a quiet day today after endless parties yesterday. We had Tina, Mike and the girls over for lunch; Sevgi and Ma Bell over for margaritas in the afternoon; and my parents, grandmother and aunt and uncle over for dinner! I tried some yummy recipes: Curry Apple and Zucchini Soup; Grapefruit and Avocado Salad; salmon; Potato-Fennel Gratin; and Plum and Raspberry Upside-Down Cake. Yummy!
