NEWSFLASH...Devon has cut her first tooth. No wonder she's been so crabby today!

I can't believe it's Labour Day weekend already. Where has the time gone? Everyone told me that 'time would go by fast' with Devon. Actually, her first 3 or 4 months seemed to go by really, really slowly. Maybe it was because we had fewer memories of her. They say that time goes by quickly the more memories you leave behind you. In other words, when you're 5 years old, you only have a few years worth of memories. One day in your life is therefore a bigger proportion of your life than it would be at age 30 or 40. Does that make any sense? Anyway, the point is that the summer has gone by really quickly!

Devon has been eating like a little piglet, so I had to go out and get her some new food last night. As you know, I've been trying to make all her food with organic produce. Well, I decided to check out Rainbow Foods. It's a neat place. There were lots of people there and everyone seems to know each other. A person who looked like the owner was walking around giving people advice on things like herbal products and ailments and they had a table set up for free palm analysis. I was tempted, but then I overheard the woman asking a customer whether she meditates and does yoga and that these things would help her blah, blah, blah. I decided against the palm analysis.

Anyway, I managed to spend $40 in a matter of minutes. I bought jars of Healthy Times and Earth's Best baby food to get us through a couple of weekends away (much easier than bringing the stuff I make).

I probably won't write this weekend. We're off to Jane's cottage in Killaloe. We'll be visiting the glass studios of Ed Roman and Clark Guettel. They have end of season sales every Labour Day weekend and we usually stock up on wedding/birthday/christmas gifts for the year. We also plan to stop by the /Sierra Designs factory store to see if we can find some warm clothes for Devon.

Well, I best be off. I have a conference call in 15 minutes...right about the time when Devon will be waking up from her nap (!). Guess I'll resort to the swing and baby bach video for half an hour.

Jeff doesn't like the Bridgehead House Blend. I guess I'm not surprised. He now thinks it's the smell that bothers him and says he will go and get a coffee from Tim Hortons so that he can do a smell test. Sheesh!

In even more exciting news, Devon is now hanging out on her hands and knees. She hasn't figured out how to move, and usually does a faceplant after a little while, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before she's mobile. We have some major babyproofing of the house to do...and I guess I should start washing the floors ;)

I've been thinking about my neighborhood the last few days. We really are blessed with great neighbors (and I'm not saying this just because Joe and Doris read my blog either!). Everyone gets along really well and we all watch out for each others property. It's funny that I never felt this sense of comradery in any other place I've lived, but that's probably because when you're renting there's no sense of permanence. It probably makes a difference that were on such a small street. You get to know everyone pretty quickly, if not by name then at least by face...or type of car anyway.

Which reminds me that I haven't updated you on the traffic situation. You'll recall that we successfully had our street parking changed from two hours to one. Well, now Dr. Tran has changed his appointments from two hours to one as well. As a result, we have almost the same amount of parked cars on our street as we did before! Argh! On the positive side, he is planning to move in November.

Well, I really should go and have a shower while Devon is sleeping. What I'd rather do is lay in bed all day. I've managed to pinch a nerve in my back and it's killing me.

Phew! I decided to walk to Bridgehead today with Devon in the backpack. By the time I went there, checked out MEC and shopped for groceries, I had been walking for an hour with a 20 pound weight on my back. What a workout. Devon seemed to enjoy it too judging by the mewing sounds coming from behind my left ear. I've attached a little mirror to the pack so that I can spy on her and she seemed quite content.

We have a real dilemma in our household. I like really dark strong coffee and Jeff likes the Tim Hortons variety. I've been trying to find a happy medium for us, but to no avail. I bought a pound of House Blend at bridgehead in the hopes that it will be 'regular' enough for Jeff, but interesting enough for me. If this doesn't work, I'll have to resort to having two kinds of coffee going at all times. Other suggestions are welcome.

Bye for now.
